February 2017

Though somewhat dated news, the Christmas trees in Kimbolton Main Street and in front of the School entrance once again added an ambience and sense of community. A big thank you to all involved and particularly David Watson, Stuart and Neil Silby and Geoff Gorham , for their help on the 8th January in removing them, another example of Rotary at work in the community.

For several years Vaughan Clark has been honing his quiz setting skills. These were magnificently demonstrated in our first meeting of the year, which was a good humoured affair, a fitting pitting of wits. We learnt many new facts, including that Dolphins are the only other animal that participate in sex for pleasure alone.

January 11th attracted good numbers to watch Greyhound racing at Peterborough, run for the second time by Jason Newell and this was duly followed on the 19th January with one of the highlights of the Rotary calendar our Burns night in the capable and entertaining hands of Dr John Rawlinson, Family and friends, in fact a whole clan, including pipers and helpers. An absolutely magnificent evening of poetry and lyrics covering lice, love and war with the accompanying array of whiskeys, haggis, neaps and tatties.

The following two meetings were focussed on internal planning and on the 9th February our socks were blown off by a very stimulating talk on Armed policing in the UK by Jim Bell.

Kimbolton Country Fayre and Classic Car Show – 9th July
Preparations are on track for another magnificent show this year and we are in the process of firming up events, displays and activities. In addition to around 1000 Classic cars, The Sealed Knot will be re-enacting an episode from the Civil War and new to this year we welcome Beagles and carrying forward the racing theme from last year, Seamark geese/pig/sheep racing. There will of course be the usual popular attractions such as the Galaxy Big Band.
